So you are in need of cash and want some methods on how to do so?

This guide will cover some of the basics of earning money in freeplay Runescape.

Combat[]

Be mindful of food consumption. Not only does food heal a character's life points, it can also cost money. If you need to use food at all, pick a cost effective food and a monster that wont hit you too hard.

Monster Recommended combat level Details
Chicken Any Chickens are one of the easiest monsters to kill in runescape. Pick up their feathers which is stackable if you wish to make money. sell the loot in the Grand Exchange. There is no way to die from a chicken, they will always hit 0's when a players life point is 1, making them the ideal monster to kill at much lower levels. Feathers are used both by members fletching arrows and by F2P/P2P alike training fishing through the fly fishing method. The Chicken is found in the Varrock Champions' guild, Lumbridge farms or the farm south of Falador.
Cow Any, Level 10+ recommended The Cow can be found in the Lumbridge cow fields and the north-eastern Draynor field. They drop bones, cow hides and raw beef. All 3 are popular and in demand and can easily be sold to the Grand Exchange for a good price. It is good experience/cash for lower levels, but cows can be dangerous to a starting player, so caution and/or food is advised at lower levels.
Wizards Level 20+ Be very careful when killing a Wizard, their magical attacks can be deadly for their low level and if you wear metal armour, you are as good as dead. These blue robed spellcasters can be found in Wizard's Tower and drop a range of runes as well as expensive wizard robes (collect these) and the occasional water talisman (These are worth a average of 10,000 GP in the Grand Exchange!)
Stronghold of Player Safety Monsters Depending on monster: 20-70+ respectively The cockroaches of the Stronghold of Player Safety drop a variety of items worth several thousand gold each. The Higher level ones can drop rare and expensive rune items and are therefore a decent way to earn money.
Lumbridge Catacomb Monsters 20+ These monsters drop a variety of things, some stackable and therefore worthwhile. for example the ranger and mage creatures drop various magic and ranger equipment which all stacks up.
PVP 20+ Ok, other players are not monsters but they sure are more dangerous then one! kill other people in risky and fun situations. They drop loot when you kill them, you get it? This can be done in either a PVP or Bounty Hunter world
Hill giants 35+ Kill them, either bury the big bones or collect them with some of the more rarer loot. Very popular monster, killed by many nearly all the time.
Dark Wizards 41+ More dangerous then their blue clad fellow spellcasters, found just outside varrock and agressive to all under level 41.
Hobgoblin 45+ The best place is the peninsula near the crafting guild where loads of hobgoblins wander about. Great Money/Experience balance and close to a bank.
Moss Giant 50+ Stronger than Hill giant and with better drops. Found in Crandor and Varrock sewers.
Greater Demon 80+ Hold up! why isn't the lesser demon mentioned? the reason is: their drops are terrible, they hit almost as often as the greater and they are far away from a bank. Greater demons are found in the Wilderness Volcano, right near a bank and drop better rune Items that the Cockroach soldier from the stronghold of player safety. Since it is part of the Wilderness, watch out for revenants!

Cooking[]

Amazed that this is here? Well, provided you got the money or fished/collected the resources itself, of course cooking makes money! Fish/collect what you want and cook it to make money, the following Table supplies some alternative methods.

Oh and, don't eat your food by accident!

Food Cooking level and other requirements Details
chocolate dust 4+ Use your knife on a chocolate bar, this will turn it into dust. Either collect or buy the chocolate bars, and sell the dust in the Grand Exchange. Members use it for their potions. Not the best money making method, but hey you're still very low level in cooking and it usually does make a profit.
Pizza 45+

Buy/collect flour, tomatoes, jug of water and cheese from the Grand Exchange for a cheapish price. Dont worry about burning too much, because even if you do burn some you still make a decent profit. Adding toppings to the pizza actually makes less money than just a plain one.

Crafting[]

Crafting is a underrated skill, but it is still scarce when it comes to money making, unless you get everything yourself!

Item Crafting level Details
Leather 1 Oh so simple, oh so effective too! Buy cowhides from the Grand Exchange and tan it in Al Kharid for a cheap price. Heck, kill the cows yourself and you're all set! Sell it in Grand exchange for a tidy profit.
Wizard's Robes 1 Buy black robes and blue dyes, use the dye on the robes and sell the wizard's robes. sometimes the price is unstable in the Grand Exchange, so keep an eye on it.
Gold ring 5 Buy gold bars and a ring mould. make sure the ring mould is in your inventory. By using the gold bar on the furnace (the best is Al Kharid) you can create gold rings and also make a profit off members training summoning who need gold rings.
Gold amulet 8 Double the xp compared to gold rings but seriously lower profit. But please note: it is generally considered to be easy to sell quickly resulting in potential quick profit/experience balance.

Firemaking[]

Why is this here? you may ask. Well it's here because There are two methods to make money via firemaking, and they are still very useless and seriously low income methods.

Item Level Requirement Details
Logs 1 People who fish at Musa point sometimes want to cook their food but do not have any logs and neither do anyone else. If you want to be a scunge who is respected by none, you may light the fire for a price.
Ashes 1 Burn logs and collect the ashes. Also many firemakers just leave the ashes, collect those too. ashes sell for around 15-20 coins on average, which is actually higher than the price of buying willow logs.

Fishing[]

Straightfoward. Fish the highest level requirement fish you can that makes a profit! some of the more popular fish are listed below

Fish Level Requirement Details
Crayfish 1 fish them and sell them raw. the closest bank is Lumbridge and the closest fishing spot is behind the Lumbridge church. Not exactly an very effective method, but the best you got at this level.
Tuna 35+ You only start to make money around this level. Harpoon tuna at Musa point, the higher the level the more tuna and therefore cash.
Lobster 40+ One of the best money makers available to F2P. cage fished at Musa Point, the higher the level the more Lobster and as a result profit. These will always and forever be in demand due to being one of the best fish for healing and used very often by Members and free-players alike.
Swordfish 50+ Same rules as the other two. When you fish Swordfish (Musa Point) you use a harpoon and the higher the level, the more often you catch them. You get both tuna and Swordfish at level 50+ at the same spot so collect both or just swordfish.
